Garden of the Gods



In 2011, the Garden of the Gods was designated as the Great American Public Place by the American Planning Association.  It is defined by different criteria such as community involvement, architectural features, accessibility and functionality.  The land was donated to the city of Colorado Springs in 1909 by the children of Charles Elliot Perkins.  It offers a wide variety of recreational features to the people of Colorado Springs.  The Garden of Gods provides a venue to do technical rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding and road and mountain biking.  It has become the most visited parks in the city, attracting more than 2 million visitors a year.
